Dear Parents,

On behalf of the school families and staff, I want to congratulate the McLeod family for their new addition on New Year's Eve.  Her name is Stephanie.  Mrs. Lambert also became a grandma on  Dec. 26, 2007.  Her son, Brian, and Chelsea have a little boy named Austin James.

All PreK-4 parents are needed for a very important meeting this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the classroom.  The meeting deals with the Phonics program that is taught throughout the school.  Because it starts in PreK-4, it is imperative the you be there in order to correctly follow up with the program at home.  This is a MANDATORY MEETING FOR PreK-4 PARENTS.  Any new parents in the primary grades are welcome to attend, since this deals with learning to read.

If you attended Mass here this past weekend, you probably heard how serious Father is about the Safe Environment Program in our parish.  Obviously, this includes the school.  I thank all who have participated and finished the program for now.  Surprisingly, we have several parents who have not started or finished the program.  Anyone who is at the school in ANY capacity absolutely needs to do this.  We have to clear everyone - all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.   IF YOU RECEIVED A RED FLYER (TRAINING TIMES) IN THIS NEWSLETTER WITH YOUR NAME ON IT, YOU NEED TO ATTEND ONE OF THE SESSIONS.  We are down to the wire on this.

Hopefully, you have received your SAT results from your darling (grades 1 - 8).  Some have asked how the school compares to other schools.  The diocese does not rank nor compare scores of one school to another.  I have never been in a Catholic school where there is a comparison or ranking, nor do I wish to be.  That's one of the blessings of being in a Catholic school.

I am very proud of our scores, because the teachers and staff work very hard to teach the students all they can, and then some.  Our curriculum is strong and challenging.  Again, if you have any questions about your darling's scores, don't hesitate to call.

HELP!!  We are in great need of help on Pizza Fridays. Please see the article below.  It doesn't take long, and it goes quickly.

Catholic Schools Week begins on Sunday, January 27th - please mark your calendars.  We will have an all-school Mass at 10:30 on Sunday.  More information will be coming about the Mass and activities for the week.  We try to make it a very special week for the students.

Bluebonnet Books

The 2008 election for the Texas Bluebonnet Awards is close at hand.  We will be having early balloting Jan. 21 - 25, 2008. The poll will close on Monday, Jan. 28th, so we can tally our ballots, and submit the totals to the Texas Library Association.  Please keep reading.  The twenty titles for the 2009 election have been selected.  My Christmas wish list included these books, and the library now has five of these titles.  I will be asking for the remaining titles using the Catholic Schools Week Giving Tree.                          –  Mrs. Tidwell
