Dear Parents,
I hope you and your family were as excited with the start of school last week as we were. It has been a great beginning with only a few minor bumps along the way. This was the first year that I can recall that we did not have one crying Pre-K4 or Pre-K3 or crying mothers on the first day last week. Wow! It must mean this is really going to be a special year! :- )
I do want to welcome all the newcomers to St. Joseph. We feel we have a special school and hope that you see that by now. Newsletters come out weekly on Tuesdays with the darling's folder, which usually has other important items for you to read.
Our theme this year is "Each is a Song in God's Orchestra." We each have a song to sing throughout our lives. At times, our song may change depending upon our talents and needs at the time. Hopefully, throughout the year the staff will be able to guide your darlings to enrich their song (talents and abilities, beliefs and values) each in their own way. What song moves you in a particular way, and why? Have there been other songs during your lifetime that have had an effect on you? This might be a good discussion around the dinner table some evening.
All need to be involved in our Oktoberfest. Yesterday, notices went home for purchase of t-shirts for the Oktoberfest. This is one of the best ways to advertise the Oktoberfest. Students may wear these each Friday as a means of advertisement. Spread the word to your friends and relatives to save September 20th for some fun, good eating, entertainment and prizes.
Needless to say, I do need to make a few comments about drop-offs and pick-ups. In the morning, drop-offs are very simple. Turn in, and make a U in front of the school. Don't go around any other way or come to the front any other way. There should be no problem in this area. Also, do not stay parked in front of the cafeteria on Marvin. This prohibits others from dropping off at the sidewalk. The students go to the cafeteria. When they are dismissed to go to the classrooms, any parents who feel the need to escort their darlings to the classroom are then to exit back out the cafeteria door. Please do not escort your darling to the classroom. They do know the way and what to do after they get there.
In regard to the pick-up in the afternoons, I want to thank you all for your patience and understanding. Although you have to wait, I think the new system is working. We had it down under 15 minutes yesterday. Way to go! :-) If this continues to work, we'll keep it. On rainy days, (God help us), all will be dismissed from the front door as we see your car drive up. Those days will require a lot of patience!
If you need to come to the office at pick-up time, please come earlier. The teachers are outside to supervise your darlings; please don't try to conference with them at that time.
Our opening school Mass will be this Thursday. Sister Gloria, the new diocesan superintendent, will be our guest. Feel free to welcome her. Hopefully, she'll have time to visit the school after Mass.
Remember to pray as a family every day. Keep each other strong. Thank you for all you do for our school.
Ms. Volker
MARK YOUR CALENDARS: OKTOBERFEST!!
Oktoberfest is Saturday, September 20th. We need everyone's support to make our biggest fundraiser of the year a success. And, get ready to sell those raffle tickets! They'll be coming very soon.
ROOM COORDINATORS and ROOM MOMS
Please be sure to get an information letter out to all parents in your child's homeroom. Oktoberfest is just around the corner, and the parents need to be informed by you of all the activities involved with our fall fundraiser. If any of you have any questions, please call Maribeth May @ 972-937-7557, or email to maribethmay@hotmail.com.

A special thank you to Danny Huskins for sanding down and renewing about 20 wooden chairs for the students this summer.
Thank you, Steve Canis, for working to refurbish the back playground. He could also use some help.
Thanks also to the Pickett Family for cleaning up the back flower gardens. They look great!

Two of our young 4th-grade ladies, Belle P and Lexi W, helped the Lady Stingers Soccer Team for the entire soccer tournament this past weekend in Cleburne. Congratulations, girls.
