Out of concern for the safety and security of our teachers and students, there will be no walk-up at dismissal. All parents must pick students up from school through the carline.
Arrival Proceedures
Supervision of students begins at 7:00 am. Students may not arrive prior to 7:00 am as there is no staff supervision. As students arrive, they are to go immediately to the cafeteria until 7:40 am at which time they proceed to their classrooms.
Dropping Off: All traffic must enter from Marvin Avenue into the drive next to the chapel. Cars will proceed to Lane 2, go left and proceed to the school and drop off at the curb. Exit by going around the back of the PFC and exit onto Marvin by the church.
The parking area directly behind the chapel and rectory is not allowed to be used during morning drop-off.
Parents may enter the building, but please be mindful that, In addition to Safe Environment standards, students are preparing for their day while teachers are supervising and preparing as well. It is important that students are allowed to prepare for their day without parental assistance; this provides a great opportunity for students to practice independence and build that self-confidence. Impromptu meetings with the teachers distract from their supervision of students and delay the start of the school day. A quick note or an email is a better choice for morning communications as there are fewer distractions and teachers can focus their concentration on the question or concern.
Students who arrive after 7:50 am must be walked to SJCS door by a parent and signed in as tardy.
DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
Change in Dismissal Procedure begins Monday, Aug. 23
After the first week of school, we have seen that our dismissal procedure is not working efficiently. Beginning Monday, August 21st, SJCS will change to an outdoor dismissal procedure. This procedure will be easy to navigate and make everything run more smoothly for us all. I appreciate your patience as we adjust to our school's growth.
On Monday, cars will enter the parking lot by the BIG CHURCH and line up like they always do, but we will start the carline by the PFC accessible parking area. There will be a cone marker out on Monday to mark the front of the carline. Once we have those first cars lined up, all other vehicles can follow suit.
Students will be dismissed from the building with their class and teacher at 3:10. The classroom teacher will lead students out of the school building to the plaza and will wait to be called to their car.
The SJCS faculty will set up four pickup stations next to the PFC in the accessible parking area. Dr. McDowell will call names as usual; teachers and staff will help get students into their cars. Once your student is in the car, you are ready to go! Please pull into a parking space in front of the school to buckle children into their seats. Do not stop in the same path other cars are using to exit.
This new dismissal procedure allows parents to walk up and personally get their students. Please bring your yellow name placard with you so teachers can identify you. When walking up to gather your student, always check in with teachers. Those who walk up must use caution when crossing the carline. There will be a designated crossing area.
