Getting Started

Student Interview & Placement Assessment

What Can I Expect?

INTERVIEW:
At this time, Saint Joseph Catholic School will do a short interview with the students. Parents are allowed in this meeting. Basic questions to get the know the student are asked, along with some super fun and silly ones! This allows us to get to know the student on a more personal level.

PLACEMENT EXAMS:
After the interview, parents are able to leave for the recommended amount of time for student placement test. This allows us to see what grade level is appropriate for student abilities. These exams are for the purpose of information to find out how we can best serve your student!

For younger students (PK) this assessment is very casual and may consist of playing with toys, talking about shapes, colors, singing songs (ABCs), and visting the playground (to make sure student is able to climb stairs, hop, jump, etc. This younger student assessment runs about 15-20 minutes.

Older students will be given an exam consiting of a fluency assessment, reading comprehension, and math skills. Older students can expect their exam to run 1-2 hours. Parents will be contacted by office staff when your child has completed this test process so that you can pick them up.

After this, SJCS staff will review the application, subsequent documentation, interview and placement tests, and previous school records. SJCS will contact you via email to let you know the status of your acceptance. We ask that you please allow two weeks after the student's interview before calling to check on admission status.
