How To Get Started
Student Interview & Placement Assessment
Interview
Students will participate in a short interview designed to help us get to know them better. Parents are welcome to attend. We ask basic questions to learn more about each student, along with a few fun and lighthearted ones to help them feel comfortable and at ease.
Placement Assessment
Following the interview, students complete a placement assessment so we can better understand their academic readiness and determine the most supportive placement.
Pre-K students:
Assessments are very casual and may include playing with toys, identifying shapes and colors, singing songs (ABCs), and visiting the playground. These typically last 15–20 minutes.Elementary & Middle School students:
Older students may complete assessments in reading, comprehension, fluency, and math. These typically last 1–2 hours. Parents may leave during this time and will be contacted when the assessment is complete.
After the interview and assessment, SJCS staff will review the application, documentation, placement results, and previous school records. Families will be notified of admission status via email. Please allow up to two weeks following the interview for review.
